About me

“You cannot learn unless you fall in love with the source of learning” - Alfred North Whitehead

I am a Psychoanalytic Candidate at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis, a constituent organization of the International Psychoanalytic Association or IPA. I am currently a Full Professor of Philosophy and publish extensively on the philosophy of Maurice Merleau-Ponty — the preeminent philosopher of the body and embodiment in the 20th Century – who is always trying to show the limitations of reflective life.

It is hard work getting to know your own psyche – the motivations for why you do what you do, have the experiences you have, or are the person you are – but this is also in large part because it is always playing out in the world, in the relations you have. While there are many different varieties of psychotherapy, a psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy, I believe, helps you see how your world and relations have taken their shape and meanings, and this helps you see yourself more clearly. When you begin to see yourself more clearly, you can also begin to accept yourself more easily.

I work with individuals 18 years and older, providing psychodynamic psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.

Psychodynamic therapy is like psychanalysis, an in-depth form of talk therapy based on the theories and principles of psychoanalysis. It is focused on a patient’s relationship with their internal world through the patient-therapist relationship. Happily, there is now enough research that supports the claim that this kind of therapy is an evidence-based treatment with effect sizes similar, or superior to, those reported for other treatments. In fact, there is some research that shows the value of psychodynamic therapy endures and even increases over time. This suggests that insights gained in psychodynamic therapy give patients psychological and reflective skills that grow stronger with use. You can read the following to learn more about this kind of therapy and its benefits:
